The Sankey Canal is a unique canal, in that it does not suffer any boat traffic. The club controls the Carterhouse stretch only. There are the usual canal species, plus some decent carp in the basin. Carterhouse features far bank reeds along almost its entire length. It is a known bream venue. There are shoals of decent bream (2-5lbs) that can be caught, and this has produced some big weights in matches in the past.
This section of canal also produces some large carp, with specimens over 30lbs reported.
