Moore Quarry is a special water. The peaceful surroundings are highly valued by our members who fish here. We want to keep it that way.
This site is Association-owned, and is a former sand quarry, situated next to the Manchester Ship Canal near to the village of Moore, 2 miles west of Warrington. The water is extremely clear and there is a huge depth range (over 40 feet in places).
The Quarry has undergone many changes over the past 20 years. Changes in the local
water table due to abstraction have resulted in the water level in the quarry increasing by over 12' since the days when the club created the original paths, access road and platforms around the fishery. It was then famous for the bream shoals and specimen perch. Carp were present, but largely ignored by anglers. The bays which used to be full of lily pads are now to deep to support the plant growth.
Attempts to control the water levels by pumping proved costly. Following the predation of most of the silver fish stocks by cormorants, the club decided to change direction and manage the water for specimen fish, as a response to changes in the popularity of specimen angling.
Today, the Quarry is one of our flagship specimen fisheries. Dont be fooled though, this is not a 'runs' water. Fishing can be challenging. The fish here are old and wily, and to catch them requires patience and watercraft. You will not catch on every visit.
The principle stock of fish in this lake is specimen carp, bream, tench with some pike. There are also some small shoals of roach and perch, although attention from predators limits the success of the small fish stocks. The carp reach over 30lbs, with commons, mirrors, and grass carp present. Bream and tench, although not numerous, both reach into double figures, making this one of the best specimen waters in the North West.

The high banks and very deep water make this a potentially dangerous place. Juniors may only fish here if accompanied by an adult member. There is a secure club car park on the fishery. The gate must be kept locked at all times.
Night fishing is limited to 2 nights only. Anglers must only use the swims provided, and any member found interferring with the flora and fauna at this site will be dealt with severely.
