Appleton (or Walton) Reservoir is located near to Walton Golf Course. The reservoir was formerly a put and take trout fishery. Since the water levels were increased, making a backcast impossible in places due to overhead powerlines, the club has now dedicated the water as a coarse fishery.
Fishing is available on the 'sandbank' facing the dam wall. Alternatively, there are swims along the west bank in the reeds, although wellington boots or waders are recommended.
There are shoals of quality roach in the reservoir, plus some good perch, odd bream and tench. The fishing is best when the water is coloured, when feeder fishing can be productive. There is a club-owned locked car park at one end of the reservoir.
The club is keen to preserve the quality of roach stocks at the reservoir, as fishing of this type is rare these days. We would be happy to hear your catch reports, to help us monitor the stocks.
