This popular stretch of the River Mersey stretches from Kingsway Bridge, downstream to Howley Weir where the Tidal limit of the river reaches at normal tide height.
Fishing is on the left bank and this is probably the best stretch of the Mersey in terms of fish stocks. Matches have been fished here for several years, and during that time, the average catches have steadily increased.
Roach, bream, gudgeon, perch and chub make the most of the catches, although there are also dace, eels, pike and a few carp present. Ide have been caught in this stretch, and were thought to have escaped from a commercial fishery near the river upstream.
Fishing is best on the tip, casting approx halfway across the river. The pole or long rod also scores well on some swims, with red maggot and caster the best baits.
Parking is either at Weir Lane, or on Victoria Park, where access to the river bank is gained alongside the allotments.
